To mark International Women’s Day, Dubai’s pioneering healthy-eating hub, Flow at Jumeirah Emirates Towers, is bringing together a panel of five trailblazing women from different industries for a live broadcast on this year’s theme of women in leadership achieving equality in a world dominated by Covid-19.
The discussion, which takes place on Monday, March 8, will focus on the importance of women during the pandemic through their role as frontline health workers, educators, innovators and community organizers. It will last 45 minutes, followed by a Q & A session.
The moderator is Maz Hakim, a popular Afghan-Australian radio presenter and well-known Dubai personality, who recently launched her own clothing line, Espand By Maz, which is made in the UAE using handmade Afghan fabrics.
The panelists are:
Emily Ellington, head of inclusion at GEMS Education. With 12 years of experience in the field of special needs education, she is responsible for ensuring the needs of students of determination are met in all GEMS schools throughout the UAE.
Heather Harries, Founder of Stop and Help, a volunteer-run ‘kindness exchange’ which finds donors for families who need help with their daily needs. It began at the start of the pandemic as a Facebook page asking for and donating books, toys, cakes and daily essentials to hard-up families. A year on, Stop and Help has come to the aid of more than 100,000 people, provided 2.4 million meals and delivered thousands of boxes of groceries. A former CEO of Pembrokeshire Tourism in Wales and member of the UK National Tourism Committee, Harries has also managed Sharjah Wanderers Youth Rugby Team.
Mariam Al Samadi, co-founder of DXBWomen, which has supported struggling female-led businesses during the pandemic. The 26-year-old Palestinian-American has lived in the UAE for ten years and previously worked in media and marketing. DXBWomen continues to promote women’s empowerment and showcase their businesses.
Carolyn Yaffe, Psychotherapist at Medcare Camali Mental Health Clinic is qualified in social work, cognitive behavior therapy and trauma treatment. She will discuss how to adapt to a changing environment.
