#goodmorning: How a pole fit instructor starts her day

Sarah Jones says getting into pole fitness helped her overcome an eating disorder. “It gave me confidence because I got more into what my body could do, rather than just what it looked like,” says the Dubai-based British instructor. She began teaching six years ago and has been hooked ever since. Now this inspiring gal teaches students daily at Pole Fit Dubai.

“I love teaching because I get to help others get rid of any insecurities they have of themselves,” she explains. “There’s always something new to learn and you see progress very quickly.”

Here’s how Jones starts her days filled with teaching, social media influencing (she has 84,200 Instagram followers) and the occasional bouts of photography.

Waking up

My body naturally wakes up around 8am. As for work, I’m very lucky — I don’t start until 10am.

First steps

I always make my bed first thing. That makes it less of a chore really. My mother would be so proud! And annoyed that I never did it when I was living at home.

After that, I have a glass of cold water. It’s become a huge habit and something I can’t go without. It has to be super cold. Only then do I have a shower and wash my hair. When the shower is done, I start to cook my breakfast and make my first coffee of the day. Oh!…and I tend to check my Instagram really early. It’s an awful habit, I know!

My routine is pretty simple

I wash my hair with conditioner, no shampoo (it’s good for curly hair) then cleanse, tone and moisturize my face. I always leave my hair to dry naturally. I never wear makeup day-to-day because I sweat it off at work. But I do love getting LVLs (length-volume-lift eyelash treatments) every couple of months.

An easy go-to healthy breakfast is key

For breakfast, I have two full eggs and one egg white scrambled on one slice of brown wholemeal toast. I need the carbs to get me through my morning classes.

But when I need an indulgent treat…

I head straight for a banana and honey omelette. When I make this, I use way too much honey so crash soon after, but it’s delicious. If you have not tried it, it’s a must! Slice the banana in little circles and place them on one side of your nearly cooked omelette then fold it in half. Then dribble some honey all over. Trust me, it’s yum.

I also love the Hamptons Cafe in Jumeirah Islands. I always get a delicious macaroon with my cappuccino. When friends visit from the UK, I take them there.

My job is fitness

I start my day with a 20-minute walk to my job at Pole Fit Dubai. I teach pole and flexibility classes from 11am to 1pm. I seriously love exercising in the morning so I always do the workout with the girls in my class.

Healthy tips for starting your day right

My one tip is pretty simple: try to avoid driving/taxis and walk more. I live and work in the Marina so it’s very easy for me to walk to work especially now that the weather is just perfect.
